After responding to several vehicle break-in complaints, the Atlanta Police Department is fed up and they're creating a new task force specifically devoted to catching the crooks.

According to data from the Atlanta Police Department 1,200 car break-ins so far in 2018 have taken place in Buckhead.

All together, car break-ins are up 32 percent compared to this time last year in Buckhead. According to CBS46 partner Reporter Newspapers, 51 percent of all crime in the city are vehicle crimes. In addition to the community of Buckhead, another hot spot car crooks target is downtown Atlanta according to the Reporter Newspapers report.

As a result, Atlanta Police say they're tacking the problem head-on and drivers who spoke with CBS46 News say they're doing the same.

"I take everything out in the evening," said one man who spoke with CBS46. "If it is something valuable I keep it with me. I learned the hard way. I was broken into college and ever since then, I've done it anyway."

In the report, Atlanta Police also said unsecured guns in plain sight are a big part of the problem and these types of thefts have become such a big issue in Buckhead. Police say if you have a gun in your vehicle, you should keep it in a lock box in your car.
