Razzie Awards 'honor' worst films of 2014

Former Growing Pains heartthrob Kirk Cameron received an acting award Saturday night. However, the annual Golden Raspberry Awards, which take place on the night before the Oscars are that award ceremony's polar opposite: the Razzies, as they are called, celebrate the worst cinema had to offer in the previous year.

In fact, Cameron's film, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas, was the big winner of the 35th annual event, taking home an impressive four Razzies for worst picture, worst actor, worst screenplay and worst screen combo -- for Kirk Cameron and his ego (ouch!).

In an interview with the BBC John Wilson, the founder of the Razzies, pointed out that not only was the film rated the number-one worst movie of all time on IMDB.com it was also only one of two films to score a zero rating on entertainment review site Rotten Tomatoes last year.

Other honorees of the evening include another Cameron. Cameron Diaz was awarded a Worst Actress Razzie for two films, Sex Tape and The Other Woman.

Kelsey Grammer was named worst supporting actor for his work on four fims: Expendables 3, Legends of Oz, Think Like A Man Too and Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.

Other winners:

Worst Supporting Actress: Megan Fox - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Worst Director: Michael Bay - Transformers 4: Age of Extinction

Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel: Annie

In a more positive move, the Razzie Redeemer award was intoduced this year to acknowledge those who had overcome a previous Razzie win and done something noteworthy in the past year. This year's recipient was Ben Affleck who had previously won a Razzie for Gigli and has gone on to win a Best Picture Oscar for Argo and is in Gone Girl, which has won multiple awards.
