Atlanta, GA (CBS46) Health inspectors busted a popular sub sandwich shop this week giving them a score in the 60's, but our Adam Murphy gets things started at a tasty Cuban restaurant with a perfect health score.
It's a brand new year which means new adventures on the Restaurant Report Card. So, I'm starting things by letting you all in on a little secret and sharing my favorite Cuban sandwich in Atlanta. It's right here at Crazy Cuban on 14th Street in Midtown Atlanta. Aldo Ramirez has been running the shop for about eight years and he just opened the doors to the newly renovated spot, which is beautiful and let me tell you, the food here is amazing. People come here because they have authentic Cuban sandwiches. I'm going to tell you about all the different options in a moment, but first here's this week's best and worst scores.
We questioned a well-known sandwich shop in DeKalb County this week.
Blimpie on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur failed its last routine inspection with 62 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory. The report says deli meat was at an unsafe temperature, plus there was a black substance on the soda nozzles and an employee wiped their nose, put on new gloves and handled packaged deli meat without washing their hands.
We asked the manger, Kishan Ghadiyali why she didn't wash her hands after wiping her nose.
"Sometimes I'm standing like that and I do like this," said Ghadiyali as he motioned how he would rub his nose. We reminded him that he knows not to do that. "Oh yeah that's true," he responded.
The manager said he's addressed all of the issues with his staff and customers have nothing to worry about. Management has even gone so far as to clean the soda nozzles more frequently.
- Stoney River it Cumberland Mall picked up 91 points.
- Koko's Sushi on Jones Bridge Road is back on track with 95 points on a reinspection.
- Five Guys on the East-West Connector scored 99 points.
Golden Spatula Award
Here at the Crazy Cuban on 14th Street in Midtown Atlanta they received a perfect 100, so congratulations they are this week's Golden Spatula Award winner.
Now, when you come into this quaint restaurant there's a lot to choose from. You can get the rice and beans and they have the beef hash. Their classic Cuban sandwich is basically the traditional. you just throw in the lettuce, onions, tomatoes and those awesome jalepenos. Boy that's good!
