The table is set for another helping of our exclusive Restaurant Report Card.

This week, health inspectors found violations so critical at a local restaurant, they temporarily shut it down. Then we dish out the nitty gritty from a popular steakhouse with a perfect health score.

Our next stop on Restaurant Report Card is just off the tracks in Downtown Historic Norcross, The Crossing. It’s inside an old train depot that is more than 100 years old, and the food is amazing.

First, here’s this week’s best and worst scores.

On Satellite Boulevard in Duluth, Curry Mantra is back open after being shut down by the health department. The Gwinnett County restaurant serving Indian Cuisine failed its last surprise inspection with 56 points and a “U” for unsatisfactory.

The report said an employee touched body parts and handled food without washing hands. Plus, the walk-in cooler was not properly functioning to maintain temperatures and cooked lamb, pineapples, strawberries and oranges were moldy.

“Were you serving moldy food,” we asked.

“We did not sir,” said manager Manish Patel.

“Not at all?” we asked.

“No,” Patel replied.

“Because it said cooked lamb had mold on it,” we said.

“What happened is the hot prepared, cooked things were put in the walk-in cooler and it stayed like that, and Monday we closed, and in between something happened in the cooler,” Patel said.

Management said their cooler stopped working, but they have since repaired the problem. A quick temperature check proved food is being properly stored below 41 degrees in the cooler.

“You got rid of those food items that are moldy,” we asked.

“Yes, yes,” Patel replied.

Curry Mantra corrected most of their violations and picked up 91 points and an “A” on a re-inspection.

Other Scores

Antico Pizza on Circle 75 Parkway in the Battery next to Suntrust Park in Cobb County scored a 91. Another Broken Egg Café on Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County in Atlanta is back on track with a 96 on a follow-up inspection. Chick-fil-A on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta received a 97.

Golden Spatula Award

Here at The Crossing in Downtown Historic Norcross, they received a 100 on their last health inspection, so congratulations, they are this week’s winner of the Golden Spatula Award!
