ATLANTA, GA (CBS46) The health department busted a local restaurant this week for poor hygiene practices giving them a score in the 50's. We sent our Adam Murphy in to investigate, but first we'll get things started at a popular spot serving southern cuisine with a perfect health score.
I am in the mood for some fried chicken and I've got the spot for you. One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta for southern cuisine we're at South City Kitchen on Peachtree Road here in Buckhead. They've been around nearly three years and when you come in there's a modern feel to the restaurant.
Not only did they get a top health score, the food is absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients, all of the items are so good on the menu. In fact, they all have that southern flare of course. We're going to tell you about what dishes you can order in a moment, but first here''s this week's best and worst scores.
We discovered a dirty dilemma at Great Wall on Bakers Ferry Road in Atlanta failed with only 51 points and 'U' for unsatisfactory. The report says old food was stuck to clean knives. Plus, food was stored on the floor and the report said an employee did not know where or how to wash hands.
The manager argued that the only thing dirty is how the health inspector conducted business.
"I'm not stupid. I know how to wash hands. That is my job." said the manager.
- Ameer's Mediterranean Grill on Briarcliff Road in Atlanta picked up 85 points and a 'B' on a reinspection after failing a few of weeks ago.
- Popeyes on Highway 138 in Conyers scored a 95 and in Cobb County.
- Subway on Brownville Road in Powder Springs received a 99.
Here at South City Kitchen on Peachtree Road in Buckhead they received a perfect 100, in fact three in a row. Congratulations they are the winner of this week's Golden Spatula Award. When you walk inside the restaurant it's a modern take on southern favorites. So, let's get right to the menu. They have a nice-looking salad, you can also get the fried green tomatoes, one of my favorites the shrimp and grits, trout is on the menu. Boy that's good!
