A metro Atlanta restaurant is in some hot water with the Health Department this week after failing a surprise inspection with a score in the 30s.

But it’s not all bad. One little spot in Southeast Atlanta has been around for almost 10 years, and it’s easy to see why. There is always a line of people outside of Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand on Moreland Avenue.

You come in and you know you’re getting original recipes and delicious food, and if you want anything chicken sausage, they’ve got it. You can sit outside on the patio and enjoy a great lunch, and better yet, everything on the menu is under $10. They’re also open all night on Friday and Saturday.

First, here’s this week’s best and worst scores.

About 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, on Parkside Lane in Gwinnett County, one restaurant manager had a lot of explaining to do.

Parkside District in Lawrenceville failed their last surprise inspection with only 36 points and a U for unsatisfactory. The report said raw ground beef patties were stored over ready to eat sauces. Plus, there was a pink and black mold-like substance in the ice machine, and there were several flies in the kitchen.

“This is one of the lowest scores I’ve seen,” we said. “What are you doing to correct?”

“I really don’t want to be on camera,” said Parkside District Manager Forrest Molock.

“Well, that’s what we do and we want to give you an opportunity to tell your side of the story.

“Unfortunately, they caught us on a bad day,” Molock said. “Since then, we have definitely corrected everything.”

The only issued we spotted during our visit was a blocked health inspection you couldn’t read. A problem the manager fixed on the spot.

“As of this moment, we are 100 percent ready,” Molock said. “We actually want them to come in the door obviously. The standard that we set is much higher unfortunately than we performed.

In a follow-up inspection after we visited, Parkside District received 100 points.
