I'm going to give you a taste of sweet home Chicago on this week's Restaurant Report Card. I'm at Mike's Hot Dogs on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. They've been here 23 years and when you step inside this restaurant you get a feel of the windy city. The walls are covered with great memorabilia that you can enjoy, but people love to come her for than Chicago style dog. The man behind it all is Elvis and he knows how to make some of the best dogs around. He started washing dishes here and now he runs this joint! I can't wait to tell you about the food, but first here's this week's best and worst scores.
We uncovered serious violations inside Ameer's on Briarcliff Road in Atlanta. They failed with only 53 points and a 'U' for unsatisfactory. The report says there was no thermometer available to determine if food is properly cooked. Plus, floors and walls throughout the kitchen have excessive accumulation of grease and food debris, and the health inspector said pita chips returned by a customer in a to-go container were being re-served to other customers.
- Wendy's on Jonesboro Road in Morrow scored 95 points.
- Dreamland BBQ on Alpharetta Highway in Roswell picked up a 96.
- Zaxby's on Powder Springs Street in Marietta received a 97.
Golden Spatula Award
Here at Mike's Hot Dogs on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs they scored a perfect 100. In fact, two in a row so they are the winner of this week's Golden Spatula Award. It's not the only accolade they've received. People Magazine named them best hot dog in the state of Georgia recenlty. They have Italian sausage, the chili cheese dog, Italian beef, the pizza puff, chili cheese fries, onion rings and the Chicago style dog. Boy that's good!
