Atlanta, GA (CBS46) Health inspectors busted an upscale seafood restaurant this week for failing to get rid of potentially hazardous food, but our Adam Murphy gets things started at a southern style restaurant with an incredible record of flawless inspections.
It's not easy to find a restaurant that has a perfect 100, let alone nine in a row. We're at Table & Main on Canton Street in Historic Roswell inside a home that is more than 100 years old, but beautifully refurbished. We'll tell you about their menu, but first, here's this week's best and worst scores.
This week we went looking for the manager of a popular seafood restaurant on Cobb Parkway in Atlanta.
C & S Seafood and Oyster Bar failed it's last surprise health inspection with 47 points and a 'U'. The report says oysters, clams and beef were at unsafe temperatures. Plus, containers of raw oysters were stored next to a pan of food and employees attempted to save food deemed unsafe by the health inspector.
When we asked if the food was safe, an employee responded, "Green Olive Media is our pr company." We asked again, and the employee responded, "Absolutely it is."
On the way out the door we noticed management posted the wrong health score. They had a 100 on the wall that is nearly four years old.
We checked with their pr company and they told us the failing score was due to the loss of power in the cooler and that all issues have been resolved.
They provided us with the following statement:
"C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar is committed to serving the highest quality food and beverage every day to their loyal customer base. The restaurant voluntarily closed for a short period of time on Thursday, November 8, in order to repair a walk-in cooler during the Cobb Country Environmental Health Specialist’s routine inspection. The unsatisfactory score that we received is due to the loss of power in the cooler and the inadequate food storage temperature that was caused due to the loss of power.
C&S wants to ensure customers that all of the food was properly disposed of quickly and the score is not a reflection on C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar’s commitment to the highest food quality. We eagerly await the next visit from Cobb County’s Environmental Health Specialist.
With over 60 years of combined experience, Owners Rich Clark and Jon Schwenk are determined to ensure customers that this score in no way reflects the quality of food that C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar prepares and presents on a daily basis.
“We want to ensure our customers that all problems addressed in the report have been quickly resolved,” says Owner Rich Clark, “and we hope this temporary score does not deter customers from stopping in to enjoy the delicious offerings from our talented culinary team.”
- Haven on Dresden Drive in Brookhaven scored 93 points.
- Mellow Mushroom on Peachtree Street in Atlanta received a 96.
- Dickey's BBQ Pit on Ridenour Boulevard in Kennesaw corrected every violation and scored 100 points on a re-inspection.
Golden Spatula Award
At Table & Main on Canton Street in Historic Roswell they picked up a perfect 100 on their last surprise health inspection. And to top that, they've received a perfect score nine times in a row!
That is the gold standard, so congratulations to this week's Golden Spatula Award. Now, let's talk about the menu. They have shrimp and grits, pimento cheeseburger and fries with local beef, and you can enjoy sweet potato pie for dessert. Boy that's good!
