A suspect was shot in the hand by Sandy Springs police officers late Friday after they say he drove a vehicle towards them.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, in the 6500 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road, while officers were trying to make an arrest.

A spokesperson for the Sandy Springs Police Department didn't identify the suspect or say why he was being arrested.

The spokesperson says while officers were attempting to make an arrest, Jaquan Barnes tried to flee, ramming two patrol cars as officers were trying to box him in.

The 22-year-old is accused of driving toward the officers while they were outside their patrol cars, which is when he was shot in the hand, according to the spokesperson. Authorities say Barnes is also wanted in South Carolina for aggravated assault.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, no officers were hurt in the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
