More than half of African American and Latino children in the U.S. don’t know how to swim, which makes swim lessons critical this summer season.
So, Horizons Atlanta summer camp has made it a focus to teach kids swim safety through free, weekly swim lessons. The camp provides cultural and educational activities to the underserved.
For many of the kids, it’s the first time they’ve stepped in a pool, let alone performed a back stroke. CBS46 has been following their progress, and recently checked back in at the program’s annual swim meet, where 4th grade campers showed off their skills in a friendly competition.
