An event that started with about 25,000 people and has since expanded to as many as 85,000 will take over downtown Atlanta this weekend. It's Dragon Con 2018!
The annual 5-day event features costumes, characters and props from movies and comic books and fans can expect to see much more security in place following last weekend's deadly shooting at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. Tickets and memberships!According to the Dragon Con website, the event is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music and film in the Universe.
Several celebrities are expected to be on hand and there will be all kinds of things to do including autograph sessions, workshops, live music and the Dragon Con Parade.
You can get a free zombie makeover at the Westin Peachtree Plaza on Friday. Professional effects artists are offering complimentary zombie makeovers but the lines can be long and tipping is encouraged.
On Saturday, the Georgia Aquarium will host their annual Dragon Con night. The event begins at 8:30 p.m.
Also, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta is the go-to hotel and the gastropub's "22 Stories" has a tribute to the television series "Stranger Things". It's an 11 burger topped with white cheddar imento cheese, fried onions, friend pickles and bacon on a brioche bun. They also have voodoo buckets made with rum and fruit juices along with a phantom slushie made with select spirits. Full list of activities and eventsSecurity at comic book conventions across the country have been tighter, especially after police arrested a man last summer in Phoenix dressed as the popular character "The Punisher". Investigators say the 29-year-old was carrying a real gun, not a prop. Police say one of that man's targets was actor Jason David Frank. What you can and can't do at the eventOf course, safety is the number one priority at Dragon Con and although officials wouldn't confirm exact details, you can expect wanding and metal detectors.
