Transportation Security Administration agents at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport brought in the highest amount of guns ever at an airport in a single month, confiscating 30 during the month of May.
The previous record was 27 in September of 2016. Many of the guns were found in carry-on bags of passengers flying out of the airport.
According to airport officials, through the end of May 2018, TSA officers at ATL had discovered 108 firearms, up from 91 for the same time period in 2017. The fine for a normal first offense is around $3,900. TSA prohibited items and penaltiesHowever, passengers can bring weapons with them if they're stored in checked baggage, properly packaged and declared. Firearms must be unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition.
