MCDONOUGH, Ga. (CBS46)- Two men will serve life in prison after being found guilty of killing a man during a gun trade.
Seventeen-year-old Quintavious Barber died January 25, 2017 after being shot in the parking lot of Sable Chase Apartments in McDonough.
A Henry County jury convicted 21-year-old Deshaun Middlebrooks and 20-year-old Tory Jaleel Jones of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Jones was also convicted of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
“These are two violent men who were engaged in a gun transaction that turned deadly,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “We are pleased to get them off the street and bring justice to the victims’ families.”
The jury found that Barber had met Middlebrooks and Jones at Sable Chase for a gun trade. But before the exchange took could place, Middlebrooks opened fire, striking Barber and Keundre Chappell. Both victims fled. Barber ran to an apartment and collapsed. He later died from his injuries. Chappell was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.
