Dirty Clothes

(Meredith) -- Apparently, a lot of Americans are not wearing fresh pairs of underwear everyday.

The underwear company Tommy John recently surveyed 1,000 men and women in the U.S. to find out more about their hygiene habits.

About 45 percent of those surveyed said they have worn the same pair of underwear for two days or longer. Meanwhile, 13 percent claimed to have worn the same pair for a week or more.

The company also found that men were 2.5 times more likely than women to wear their underwear for more than a week.

Curious about how often people swapped out their underwear? According to the survey,  46 percent admitted to owning the same pair for a year or longer. Thirty-eight percent said they don't even know how long they've kept the same underwear.

Tommy John said it's a good idea to replace your old underwear with a new pair every six months to a year to "ensure you're protected from harmful infections and health risks."
