(Meredith) - A family in Texas is outraged after a series of videos appeared to show a teacher mistreating their child who has special needs.

The family's attorney, Samuel Wesley, posted the surveillance footage to Facebook on Saturday. One video shows the teacher knocking over the student's desk, grabbing his arm and forcing him to pick it up.

She then knocks over two chairs before dumping items on the floor and demanding the student clean up the mess, according to the video.

"See how it is when you turn stuff over. It's not fun, is it?" the teacher can be heard saying. "I'm gonna make you clean up this whole room."

Wesley said the student could not communicate to his mother what happened to him in class that day.

"The teacher was keenly aware of this and took advantage of that fact," he wrote.

Though Wesley recently released the footage, the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District told KTRK-TV the incident happened in 2018.

It also said the teacher, identified as Regina Thurston, is currently under investigation.

Regina Thurston is no longer an employee with the District. Upon learning of this incident in December 2018, the District immediately placed Ms. Thurston on administrative leave pending its investigation of the incident. Ms. Thurston subsequently resigned on Jan. 16, 2019. Ms. Thurston was reported to the police and she is currently under investigation by the Texas Education Agency.

The family plans to hold a press conference about the incident on Tuesday. They said they want to raise awareness on how children with special needs are treated inside classrooms.

Wesley said a public hearing with the school district is scheduled next week on Jan. 21.
