(Meredith) -- Check out this amazing video of a water rescue in California.

It happened Sunday in Sacramento after a deer fell into a canal. Concerned witnesses called firefighters when the frightened animal couldn't scale the sides of the concrete canal next to the American River.

First responders realized they couldn't do much from their fire engine so they called in a rescue boat. It was that crew that pulled the deer to safety.

After taking a little breather from its ordeal, the deer eventually walked away from the scene on its own without any major injuries.
