Scattered rain will continue to fall in metro Atlanta through the weekend. The next dry day isn't expected until Monday!

(MORE: Tuesday's weather planner)

A Flood Watch is in effect for northwest Georgia through Friday morning, where higher rainfall amounts are expected.

The flood watch does not currently include metro Atlanta.

Why so much rain?

As you've noticed by now, the rain isn't non-stop, but will continue to come in waves across metro Atlanta.

We've been in a very active weather pattern with upper-level winds (which drive our weather systems in the U.S.) constantly pushing smaller cold fronts through north Georgia.

A combination of these fronts frequently moving through is what will keep your rain chances up.

Our upper-level winds are also out of the southwest, keeping a steady stream of moisture moving in from the Gulf of Mexico, enhancing the rain.

Monthly rain in a week

Atlanta typically sees 4.67 inches of rain each February, and it's possible that we could see that much rain through Sunday!

So far this month, we've picked up just over an inch of rain, which is currently below average for the month.
